About Ruth Carney

Ruth Carney

Ruth is a professional theatre director with 15 years experience. She is currently the Artistic Director of The Lantern Theatre in Sheffield.  She is also the Director of the Carney Academy of Performing Arts (CAPA).

She has worked on many different theatre projects many of which have a social political base and is now making the move into television and film. Notably Ruth developed and directed The Lemon Princess at the West Yorkshire Playhouse which was based on a true story of a girl who died of NVcjd. She also directed the UK professional premiere of The Laramie Project and Sisters a verbatim play about British Muslim Women, this re opened the Crucible Studio in Sheffield. Since this Ruth has been working extensively with award winning director Matthew Warchus has been his Associate on Lord of the Rings, Our House, and Ghost the Musical.

From this Ruth is now being mentored by Roanna Benn Executive Producer for Tiger Aspect and is taking up some shadowing work with television director Dominic Le Clerc.
